Course Overview

TDI Air Diluent CCR is the entry-level closed-circuit rebreather course for divers using a specific approved CCR unit with air or nitrox as the diluent. The official TDI standards describe the objective as developing basic CCR diving skills to a maximum depth of 30 metres/100 feet, without decompression diving. Students learn how the unit works, how oxygen setpoint and loop volume affect the dive, and why checklist discipline matters on every CCR dive.

This course is for divers beginning formal closed-circuit rebreather training, or qualifying on a specific CCR unit at the air diluent level. TDI standards list minimum age 18, TDI Nitrox Diver or equivalent, and unit-specific requirements, with TDI Sidemount Diver required when training on a sidemount rebreather. Students should be prepared for a methodical course built around procedures rather than shortcuts underwater.

Training normally includes unit assembly, calibration, predive checks, loop volume management, buoyancy, bailout planning, emergency drills, CNS tracking, maintenance awareness, and supervised CCR dives. In High Springs, Florida, it is a serious first step for divers moving into quiet, efficient rebreather diving. Successful students should leave with basic unit competence and a clearer respect for CCR risk management.
