GUE Technical Fundamentals is the gateway for experienced divers who want to enter GUE technical, cave, or rebreather training with a strong platform. GUE explains that the course exists because divers should not begin advanced training while still struggling with basic control. It sharpens personal skills, team awareness, standardized procedures, and doubles-based equipment handling so later training can build on competence rather than compensate for gaps.
The course is aimed at divers already serious about advanced training. GUE lists prerequisites including minimum age 16, fitness to dive, swimming ability, non-smoking status, medical clearance when required, certification to dive to 100 feet or 30 meters or completion of GUE Deep Primer, and at least 75 non-training dives. Applicants also need meaningful double-tank experience, either 25 non-training dives in doubles or a Doubles Primer pathway, with drysuit experience requirements if applicable.
Training outcomes include GUE equipment configuration, trim and buoyancy, propulsion including backward kick, valve management in doubles, gas sharing, backup light deployment, basic rescue introduction, SMB deployment, ascent training, and nitrox theory. GUE describes the class as normally four days, with at least eight dives, 32 hours of in-person instruction, and additional theory online or in person. In High Springs, Florida, it is the right checkpoint before committing to GUE Technical Diver 1, cave, or CCR training.
