Begin GUE Technical Diving

GUE Technical Diver 1 is the first formal step into GUE technical diving for divers who already have the experience, fitness, and fundamentals to manage decompression obligations. The official GUE page describes Tech 1 as preparation for deeper exploration with proper training, knowledge, teamwork, and gradual experience. It opens the door to more advanced technical, rebreather, project, and exploration diving while keeping the emphasis on disciplined execution.

The course is for divers who are ready to handle dives where a direct ascent may not be possible because of decompression requirements. GUE lists prerequisites including minimum age 18, fitness to dive, swimming ability, non-smoking status, medical clearance when needed, GUE Fundamentals with Technical certification, and at least 100 logged dives beyond entry-level autonomous certification. Additional drysuit experience is required if the class is conducted in a drysuit, and cave-environment Tech 1 has additional cave-diving prerequisites.

Training outcomes include expanding essential technical diving skills, identifying and resolving problems, using the double-tank configuration and managing its failure points, using nitrox for accelerated and general decompression strategies, using helium to reduce narcosis, and applying single-stage decompression procedures. GUE describes the course as normally six days, with at least seven dives, including three trimix experience dives, and 48 hours of instruction. In High Springs, Florida, it is a serious step for divers prepared to train at technical standards.
