GUE Scuba Diver is an entry-level course for people who want real scuba training but prefer to begin under the direct care of a dive professional. The official GUE course page presents it as a supervised diver program: students learn the basic knowledge, equipment understanding, and water skills needed for safe, comfortable dives while keeping the experience conservative. It is a useful starting point when you want more than a simple try-dive, but you are not yet ready to move straight into independent buddy-team diving.
The course is aimed at new divers, including younger students or adults who want to build confidence in smaller steps. GUE lists the minimum age as 12, and applicants should be able to swim, be physically and mentally fit, and meet the agency medical requirements. The training limit is intentionally modest: successful GUE Scuba Divers are qualified to dive under professional supervision to a maximum of 40 feet or 12 meters, which keeps the early experience focused and manageable.
GUE describes the course as normally taking three days, with confined-water sessions, open-water dives, classroom discussion, land drills, and in-water work. At Extreme Exposure in High Springs, Florida, that structure gives a new diver time to understand buoyancy, communication, equipment handling, and problem solving before deciding whether to continue into GUE Open Water Diver for more independence.
