GUE Drysuit Primer
Get Comfortable in a Drysuit
GUE Drysuit Primer is built for divers who want to transition from wetsuit diving to drysuit diving without adding uncontrolled buoyancy or unnecessary stress. GUE describes the course as preparation for drysuit diving using proper equipment and techniques. A drysuit can extend comfort, bottom time, and access to colder conditions, but it also adds new inflation, venting, trim, and emergency considerations that need deliberate practice.
The course is open to divers making that transition, including non-GUE trained divers who want an introduction to GUE systems. GUE lists prerequisites that include minimum age 16, physical and mental fitness, swimming ability, non-smoking status, medical clearance when needed, and certification at least as an autonomous entry-level scuba diver or equivalent through a recognized training agency. That keeps the class focused on drysuit-specific control rather than first-time scuba skills.
Training outcomes include buoyancy and trim practice, skill refinement, drysuit types and fitting, drysuit inflation systems, undergarments, cold-water diving considerations, and management of basic drysuit emergencies. GUE describes the primer as normally one day, with at least two dives and eight hours of classroom, land-drill, and in-water instruction. In High Springs, Florida, it is a practical upgrade for divers who want more comfort, better control, and a stronger platform for future GUE training.
