Course Overview
TDI Rebreather Intro to Cave is the second level in TDI's rebreather cave-diving development path. The official TDI page explains that the course introduces the basic principles of rebreather cave diving using a single primary guideline and directly builds on Rebreather Cavern training. It is designed to refine cavern skills while adding procedures required for elementary rebreather cave dives, not to cover every facet of cave diving.
This course is for certified TDI Rebreather Cavern Divers or equivalents who want to move forward in overhead-environment training. TDI lists minimum age 18, CCR Air Diluent Diver or equivalent, and Rebreather Cavern Diver or equivalent; an alternate route may apply for Introductory Cave Divers with 50 logged dives and 30 hours on the rebreather unit used in training. Students should already be comfortable with CCR bailout planning and guideline discipline.
Training covers rebreather cave policies, psychological factors, bailout configuration, scrubber options, guideline deployment, line following, bottle-swapping bailout exits, zero-visibility touch contact, lost diver and lost line drills, S-drills, pre-dive planning, rebreather instrument analysis, PO2 management, mask removal, light failure, anti-silting, conservation, and unit-specific skills. In High Springs, Florida, it is a serious progression for CCR cave divers. Successful students should leave ready for conservative single-guideline rebreather cave dives within TDI Intro limits.
