TDI Intro to Tech is the bridge between recreational diving and formal technical training. TDI describes it as the initiation and skills foundation for later courses such as Advanced Nitrox, Decompression Procedures, and Trimix. Rather than adding decompression obligations, the course sharpens the fundamentals that technical diving depends on: precise buoyancy, horizontal trim, propulsion, gas planning, team awareness, streamlined gear configuration, and calm problem solving, including valve drills, gas donation, and controlled ascents.
This course is suited to certified open water divers who want to expand their knowledge, divers considering a technical path, and certified technical divers who want a refresher. TDI lists minimum age 18, or 15 with parental consent, SDI Open Water Scuba Diver or equivalent certification, and proof of 25 logged open water dives as prerequisites. The course is intentionally a no-decompression introduction.
Training usually includes eLearning or academic preparation plus instructor coaching in the water environment. In High Springs, Florida, it is a useful proving ground for divers who want better control before moving toward nitrox, decompression, trimix, cave, or wreck training. Successful students should finish with improved weighting, trim, propulsion, gas matching, SMB work, and stronger decision making on every technical dive.
