TDI Intro to Cave

Course Overview

TDI Intro to Cave builds directly on Cavern Diver training and introduces the basic principles of cave diving using a single primary guideline. TDI describes it as the second level in proper cave-diving technique, focused on perfecting cavern skills and adding procedures required for elementary cave dives. It is not intended to cover all facets of cave diving, so the course stays within clear single-line limits.

The course is for certified TDI Cavern Divers, or equivalents, who want to move beyond the light zone while continuing the overhead training pathway. TDI lists minimum age 18, or 15 with parental consent, and proof of Cavern Diver certification or equivalent as prerequisites. Students should arrive with good trim, buoyancy, anti-silting propulsion, gas management, and guideline awareness from cavern training.

Training covers cave policy, gas management including dissimilar volumes, psychological considerations, equipment configuration, communication, line markers, line following in simulated lost visibility, air sharing on the guideline, mask removal and replacement, light failure response, conservation, emergency exits, and decompression theory review. In High Springs, Florida, it is a central step for divers progressing through spring and cave training. Successful students should leave ready for conservative single-guideline cave dives within TDI Intro limits.
