TDI Helitrox
Course Overview
TDI Helitrox teaches divers to plan and conduct staged decompression dives using helium in the breathing mix to reduce inert gas narcosis. The official TDI page identifies a maximum depth of 45 metres/150 feet and allows enriched air nitrox and helium mixtures with no more than 35 percent helium, plus up to 100 percent oxygen for decompression. It is a technical course about clarity, gas choice, and controlled ascent planning, not just adding depth.
This course is designed for Advanced Diver or Intro to Tech Diver level students who want to expand decompression knowledge and move toward deeper technical training later. TDI lists minimum age 18, SDI Advanced Diver with Deep specialty or TDI Intro to Tech Diver or equivalent, TDI Advanced Nitrox Diver unless taught concurrently, and proof of 50 logged dives as prerequisites.
Training covers helium limits, oxygen and nitrogen exposure, decompression gas choices, tables and computers, contingency planning, gas switching, team communication, SMB or lift bag deployment, and emergency procedures. In High Springs, Florida, it fits divers preparing for deeper springs, wrecks, or cave-related technical paths. Successful students should leave with a more thoughtful approach to narcosis management and decompression planning under supervision.
