Course Overview

TDI Helitrox CCR teaches closed-circuit rebreather divers to plan staged decompression dives using a helium-based diluent to reduce narcosis. The official TDI page describes the course as developing CCR skills to a maximum depth of 45 metres/150 feet using an air, nitrox, and helium diluent for formal decompression diving. Students may use diluent and bailout mixes within the stated helium and oxygen limits, plus oxygen-rich decompression gas when appropriate.

The course is suited to certified TDI Air Diluent CCR divers who want to extend range and learn CCR decompression procedures, as well as open-circuit Advanced Nitrox and Decompression Procedures or Helitrox divers moving to CCR technology. TDI lists minimum age 18, proof of 50 logged dives, and either the open-circuit technical pathway or Air Diluent CCR with 30 hours on the unit and six months CCR experience.

Training covers unit mechanics, scrubber handling, electronics, gas physiology, oxygen tracking, helium considerations, decompression planning, bailout calculations, emergency drills, setpoint control, SMB or lift bag use, and strict open-water performance requirements. In High Springs, Florida, it is a strong progression for divers preparing for deeper rebreather projects. Successful students should leave with sharper control of helitrox CCR planning and emergency response.
