Course Overview
PADI Tec 50 is the final course in the core open-circuit TecRec sequence before trimix-level training. It builds on Tec 40 and Tec 45 by preparing divers to plan and conduct extended-range dives to 50 metres/165 feet, including staged decompression using two decompression gases. The emphasis is not simply going deeper; it is learning to manage more complex gas planning, ascent strategy, team procedures, and equipment discipline with a calmer, more deliberate approach.
This course is intended for qualified technical divers who already hold PADI Tec 45 and Rescue Diver credentials and have substantial logged dive experience. PADI lists 100 logged dives or 75 hours, age requirements, recent medical clearance, and CPR/first aid considerations as part of the entry picture. Because this level carries real decompression obligations, students should arrive comfortable in technical gear, able to maintain precise buoyancy, and ready for demanding problem-solving work.
Training usually combines knowledge development, dive planning, skill refinement, and instructor-led technical dives.
