Discover Technical Diving
PADI Discover Tec is a short confined-water experience for certified divers who are curious about technical diving but not ready to start a full TecRec certification course. The official PADI page describes it as an introduction to basic technical diving skills and procedures, with possible credit toward Tec Basics and Tec 40. Students get to wear extra tec gear and may practice skills such as switching from a primary to secondary regulator and gas shutdown procedures.
This experience is for PADI Open Water Divers or equivalent divers who have at least 10 logged dives and are at least 15 years old. It is a good fit for divers wondering whether doubles, stage bottles, long hoses, and tec-style procedures feel right before committing to deeper technical training. Students should already be comfortable with basic buoyancy and equipment use, because the point is to sample technical task loading in a controlled environment.
Training is conducted in confined water with a PADI Tec Instructor. In High Springs, Florida, Discover Tec can help divers decide whether the Tec 40 pathway, sidemount, trimix, or cave-related technical training belongs in their future.
