CCR Cave Diver Training

NSS-CDS CCR Cave Diver is the closed-circuit rebreather equivalent of the Apprentice and full Cave Diver pathway combined. The official NSS-CDS page explains that it covers largely the same knowledge and skills as open-circuit cave training, but students learn on closed-circuit rebreathers rather than backmount or sidemount open circuit. A central theme is realistic bailout planning, because CCR cave divers must know how much open-circuit gas is actually needed to exit from maximum penetration.

This course is for rebreather divers with enough unit time to add overhead-environment demands responsibly. NSS-CDS lists a minimum age of 18, Advanced Open Water or equivalent, Rebreather Diver certification from a recognized agency, at least 50 dives in any configuration, and at least 25 dives plus 35 hours on the same rebreather used in the course. Students should already be disciplined with CCR checklists, monitoring, buoyancy, and emergency drills.

Training generally takes six or more days and includes at least 600 minutes of bottom time.
