Cavern Tech Training

NSS-CDS Cavern Tech Diver is a standalone course intended to prepare a student for NSS-CDS cave training while using a technical equipment configuration. The official NSS-CDS page describes the course as improving critical skills such as buoyancy, trim, balance, and propulsion in technical gear, improving the functionality of that configuration, and helping divers remain safely in overhead environments while staying in clear sight of the entrance and daylight. It is a bridge between sport cavern awareness and full cave training readiness.

This course is aimed at divers who already have technical-style equipment and enough experience beyond entry-level diving. NSS-CDS lists a minimum age of 18, 25 logged dives beyond open-water certification, use of backmount doubles, sidemount doubles, or a rebreather, and appropriate certification when using sidemount doubles or a rebreather. NSS-CDS Nitrox or equivalent is required or may be taken concurrently. Single Tank Cavern is specifically not a prerequisite.

Training generally takes two days, with at least four dives and 120 minutes of cavern bottom time; NSS-CDS Basics may add another day if taught together. In High Springs, Florida, Cavern Tech Diver is useful for divers who need honest feedback before cave training. The expected outcome is stronger technical configuration control, better team procedures, and a clearer sense of whether the diver is ready to pursue full overhead certification.
