Cave Surveying Training

NSS-CDS Cave Surveying teaches certified cave divers the fundamentals of surveying underwater caves. This course is for full Cave Divers who want to contribute to survey work, mapping projects, or more disciplined exploration support. NSS-CDS lists a minimum age of 18 and full Cave Diver certification or equivalent from a widely recognized training organization. Students should already have strong cave-diving control because survey tasks add workload: notes, tools, team roles, measurement accuracy, and data awareness all compete for attention in an overhead environment.

Training generally takes two days and includes two or more dives. Topics include survey phases from conception through completion, accuracy standards, team composition, special tools, methodology, safety, calculations, symbology, cartography, copyright, and publication.
