Full Cave Diver Training

NSS-CDS Cave Diver builds on the knowledge, skills, and experience developed during Apprentice Cave Diver training. This course is intended for certified Apprentice Cave Divers or equivalent divers who are ready to complete the full cave pathway. NSS-CDS lists Apprentice Cave Diver or equivalent as the prerequisite, and notes that planned decompression dives require appropriate decompression training covering oxygen-rich decompression mixtures and decompression procedures. That decompression training may occur concurrently. Students should already have reliable line work, buoyancy, propulsion, gas planning, and calm emergency responses.

Training generally takes four days, with at least eight dives and 360 minutes of bottom time. In High Springs, Florida, Cave Diver is a major credential for divers who want to plan and execute more complete cave dives within their training and equipment limits. The expected outcome is stronger cave navigation, better decompression awareness where applicable, and a disciplined ability to use Apprentice skills in more demanding full-cave contexts.
