Advanced Sidemount Training

NSS-CDS Advanced Sidemount Diver is for experienced cave divers who want training for sidemount cave diving that goes beyond simply wearing sidemount equipment. The official NSS-CDS page explains that sidemount is now mainstream in cave training, but advanced sidemount addresses much tighter restrictions, bottle removal, the ?ratchet effect,? single-file passage problems, stuck-diver scenarios, and different gas-management demands. The course is about difficult cave access, not basic sidemount comfort.

This course is for full Cave Divers with substantial post-certification cave experience. NSS-CDS lists a minimum age of 18, full Cave Diver or equivalent certification, at least 50 non-training cave dives after initial Cave Diver certification, and several logged sidemount cave dives. Students should already be capable cave divers with sidemount familiarity, strong line discipline, problem-solving ability, and the emotional control needed when restrictions turn small mistakes into serious problems.

Training generally takes two days and includes three or more dives. In High Springs, Florida, Advanced Sidemount Diver is most useful for cave divers working toward more demanding passages where configuration, bottle handling, trim, and gas management must be refined. The expected outcome is a diver who can approach advanced sidemount cave problems with better preparation, cleaner procedures, and a stronger respect for when a restriction should simply be left alone.
