NSS-CDS
NSS-CDS Advanced Cave Diver is an alternative to the standard NSS-CDS Cave Diver course. The official NSS-CDS page states that it includes all academic and skill development from the full Cave Diver course, plus the content and training of the Stage Diving specialty and the First Responder program. NSS-CDS also cautions that stage bottles add task loading and that many newly certified cave divers may be better served gaining experience slowly before adding that burden.
This course is for divers who genuinely need an accelerated, broader cave-training package and can handle the added workload. NSS-CDS lists a minimum age of 18, Nitrox and Advanced Open Water or equivalent, NSS-CDS Apprentice Cave Diver or equivalent, at least 50 logged dives, and decompression procedures plus high-oxygen decompression gas training completed before or concurrently. Students should already have strong Apprentice-level cave skills, stable team habits, and honest readiness for stage procedures.
Training generally takes five days beyond Apprentice Cave Diver and includes ten or more dives with at least 500 minutes of bottom time. In High Springs, Florida, Advanced Cave Diver can make sense for divers who cannot easily return later for separate Stage Cave and related training. The expected outcome is a full-cave-level diver with stage and first-responder exposure, while understanding why adding complexity too early increases risk.
