Night and Low-Visibility Diving
NAUI Night & Limited Visibility Diver is a specialty course for certified divers who want to dive more confidently when light, visibility, or orientation is limited. Graduates are considered competent to dive without supervision when the environment, activity, and equipment approximate those used in training.
This course is suited to NAUI Open Water Scuba Divers or equivalent divers who are ready to add lighting, communication, navigation, and situational-awareness challenges to their normal diving. NAUI lists a minimum age of 15 by the water phase, with junior certification allowed for ages 10 to 14, and requires instructor verification of student readiness before open-water training. Training normally covers dive planning, light use, backup procedures, communication, navigation, entry and exit control, and open-water dives in darkness or reduced visibility.
