Train for Technical Mine Diving
IANTD Mine Diver is represented on the current IANTD site by the Mine Diver & Technical Mine Diver program, which is designed to train divers in safe technical mine diving. Mine environments can combine overhead navigation, restricted exits, fragile structures, silt, depth, and decompression considerations. The course therefore belongs to both the cave/mine overhead pathway and the technical-diving pathway, depending on the student?s configuration and goals.
IANTD lists prerequisites that include IANTD Introductory Cave Diver or Mine Diver, or equivalent, and IANTD Advanced EANx Diver or higher, or equivalent. Students must be at least 18 for diver qualification with parent or guardian authorization as applicable. The official page states that no dives may be conducted deeper than 170 feet or 51 meters during the Technical Mine Diver program.
Training includes academic sessions, confined-water sessions, and overhead dive sessions using the IANTD Technical Cave Diver Student Kit. At Extreme Exposure in High Springs, Florida, this course should help qualified overhead divers apply technical gas planning, line discipline, buoyancy, navigation, communication, and emergency procedures to mine environments. It is not an entry-level mine course; it is for divers who already have overhead experience and are ready to manage technical mine-diving risk in a structured way.
