Learn Limited Mine Procedures
IANTD Limited Mine Diver uses the same official IANTD Cavern Diver or Limited Mine program framework, focused on overhead skills inside the limits of light penetration. For mine diving, that means learning to treat the environment as an overhead system with real hazards: restricted exits, disturbed visibility, line dependence, fragile structures, and the need for conservative planning. The course is an introduction to disciplined overhead procedures, not full mine penetration training.
The program is intended for divers who already have enough open-water experience to add overhead awareness responsibly. IANTD lists prerequisites including Advanced Open Water Diver or equivalent, minimum age 15 for full diver qualification with parent or guardian authorization when required, and proof of at least 10 logged dives. Junior Limited Mine provisions are listed for qualified students between 12 and 14 under appropriate adult supervision.
Training includes academic sessions, confined-water sessions, and overhead dive sessions using the IANTD Cavern Diver Student Kit. At Extreme Exposure in High Springs, Florida, this course gives divers a controlled introduction to mine-environment planning, guideline awareness, team communication, buoyancy control, gas awareness, and risk management inside strict limits. It is a sensible prerequisite-style step before more advanced introductory cave, mine, or technical overhead training.
