Train for Full Cave Procedures
IANTD Cave Diver is the core cave-diving course for divers who are ready to move beyond an introductory cave level and build the procedures needed for safe cave diving. The official IANTD Cave Diver & Technical Cave Diver page states that the program is designed to train divers in safe cave diving. For the Cave Diver route, no dives may be conducted deeper than 132 feet or 40 meters, keeping the emphasis on overhead skill, navigation, planning, and team discipline.
IANTD allows entry through a modular route or a more experience-based route. The modular route requires IANTD Introductory Cave Diver or equivalent and proof of at least 50 logged dives. Without Introductory Cave, applicants must hold IANTD Open Water Diver or equivalent and provide proof of 100 dives. The minimum age for diver qualification is 18, with parent or guardian authorization when applicable under the standard wording.
Training includes academic sessions, confined-water sessions, and overhead dive sessions using the IANTD Cave Diver Student Kit. At Extreme Exposure in High Springs, Florida, this is where cave students refine guideline procedures, cave navigation, team communication, gas planning, emergency response, and the calm control needed when direct ascent is unavailable. It is a major step for divers who want a legitimate cave-diving foundation rather than a casual overhead experience.
