Move into Technical CCR Diving

GUE CCR Technical Diver 1 is the next step for CCR Fundamentals divers who want to use a closed-circuit rebreather in technical diving. The official GUE page explains that the course helps divers transition from recreational CCR diving to technical diving with a rebreather. It reinforces fundamental rebreather skills while developing the ability to handle open-circuit and closed-circuit failures during dives where direct ascent is not an option.

The course is intended for GUE CCR Fundamentals divers who have completed at least 50 non-training dives in the GUE CCR configuration after CCR Fundamentals certification. GUE also lists minimum age 18, fitness to dive, swimming ability, non-smoking status, and medical clearance when required. Drysuit experience requirements apply if the course is conducted in a drysuit. This is for divers who already have comfort on the unit and are ready to extend range carefully.

Training outcomes include expanding essential technical diving skills, identifying and resolving OC and CCR problems, using a technical CCR configuration, managing related failure points, applying general decompression strategies, using helium to reduce narcosis, and planning technical CCR missions. GUE also references gas management, absorbent canister endurance, oxygen toxicity management, and decompression strategies. The course is normally six days with seven dive sessions, 48 hours of instruction, and at least 10 hours of dive time. In High Springs, Florida, it is a serious progression into CCR technical diving.
