Transition to Closed-Circuit Diving

GUE CCR Fundamentals is designed to help qualified divers make a structured transition from open-circuit diving to closed-circuit rebreather use. GUE describes the course as a supportive environment for developing essential skills in rebreather management, maintenance, and operational protocols. The class builds confidence with a GUE-configured CCR while keeping the long-term goal in view: a solid foundation for future technical or cave rebreather training.

The course is intended for divers who already hold GUE Technical Fundamentals and have the experience to manage the added complexity of a rebreather. GUE lists prerequisites including minimum age 18, fitness to dive, swimming ability, non-smoking status, medical clearance when needed, completion of GUE Technical Fundamentals, and at least 150 non-training dives. Drysuit experience requirements apply if the course is conducted in a drysuit.

Training outcomes include becoming a competent and comfortable CCR diver with solid personal and team skills, understanding rebreather preparation and function, managing dive operation, responding to failures, performing bailout to open circuit with ascent protocol, and planning recreational CCR dives.
